Slowly Mending

Lastnight was the first night that I managed to sleep through most of the night. I only had to wake up once in regards to pain from my elbow. Yesterday marked the first day I was able to get back on my bike (indoors - Erik won't let me venture outdoors until I get the Doctor's approval). Oh and yesterday was also the first day that I was able to do full active extension of my elbow. Many firsts!!!

Typing is still a bit difficult because of the lack of pronation I have right now in my right forearm. I have to hike up my shoulder to type with two hands and need to stop periodically because of the discomfort. But all in all, LIFE is GREAT!

My coach, Chuckie V. and I will embark on our 2008 quest come this mid-September. Until then I am a free bird in terms of training, staying fit and organizing my life. I have managed to cross-train some, however, being in the midst of Penticton summer weather the desire to train indoors is difficult. I just found a ton of hiking trails that literally go up the sides of mountains. Penticton has truly been an adventure thus far. And I hope it never stops!

Time to Think

Due to my recent bike accident that has left me with a broken elbow and surgery, all I have time for right now is to think and try to ignore the pain. It is 2:30am in the morning as I write this and it has dawned on me that I need to be more grateful for what I have in my life. I have an amazing support network that includes an unbelievable coach, family, sponsors and friends. My new part-time position at the Child Development Centre will be most conducive to training and it is a type of career that only leaves you feeling more complete and humble. I now live in one of the best, (if not THE BEST) areas of BC to train for triathlon and my fiancee and I just bought a house here in the beautiful, quaint little town of Penticton. And these examples are just some of the amazing things in my life in which I am truly grateful.

For the rest of the 2007 I plan to focus on the little things that will only make me stronger for a great debut in 2008. These include: eating nutritiously day in and day out, balancing training with family, my career and personal emotional/mental activity, getting enough rest and recovery, and start a solid flexibility and strengthening program. However before any of this is started my first prerogative is to recover from my surgery and slowly regain the potential fitness, strength and stamina for a solid 2008 season. This includes sleep that is waning due to pain killers wearing off! Slow and steady.
